We work with affluent families, high-net-worth individuals, business owners, entrepreneurs, and professionals. In many cases, these families/individuals have built a significant net worth and are interested in strategies designed to help them preserve and grow their resources, take periodic income, and mitigate risk to their assets from potential taxation. For business owners, in particular, the sale of their most important asset is a big transition. These clients may face a change where they were in “control” of their business, and investing can feel foreign to them from the point of view that they do not feel as if they can determine outcomes as directly. For affluent retirees, the transition is often the change from the accumulation phase, where the focus is on growing assets over the years to shifting the portfolio to pursue retirement income goals. The change toward a portfolio that is designed to generate income is an important shift that requires thoughtful risk management strategies – there is often a feeling that there is more at stake at this stage.
We begin by getting to know our clients’ full financial picture, not just their investment portfolio. We work to understand their unique needs versus putting them in a one-size-fits-all model, as well as getting to know their risk tolerance.
We believe that periodic check-in discussions with clients are important in keeping the overall plan on the right track. Working with the client’s tax advisor and estate planning advisor can be crucial to a well-executed overall plan. Understanding and adapting to clients’ changing situations is also important. We are at the ready to adjust to changing market and economic conditions as part of our check-in discussions.
